Bio

Mr. Davenport hails from Plano, Texas, just outside of Dallas. After graduating from high school in the International Baccalaureate program, he studied history at Carnegie Mellon University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2006. While there, he discovered a love of the outdoors that would eventually lead him to Pagosa Springs. He worked in IT at an elementary school in his hometown for five semesters. During this time, he studied to become a teacher, then took his first job teaching high school. After completing his internship year and receiving his license, he discovered his love of teaching middle school at Uplift Education’s Summit International Preparatory Academy where he taught technology for the next four years. He met his wife, Rica Potenz, and they moved to Colorado, first living on the Front Range while he taught for KIPP Sunshine Peak Academy. He returned to school, completing a master’s of education in Educational Leadership in 2018. It was at this point that Mr. Davenport and his wife moved to Pagosa Springs. He began teaching at the Pagosa Peak Open School in the final month of its first year and remained there for the next five semesters. In 2022, he began teaching Math Plus at PSMS. Mr. Davenport loves working with his students and the excellent staff at the middle school. He is a conversational Spanish-speaker and enjoys integrating his knowledge of the language into his work. He also enjoys travel, music, swimming, hiking, backpacking, meditation, garden-fresh veggies, mountain views, gourmet cooking, documentaries, and board games.
