Attention incoming 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Pirate families!
We are excited for our school and our community that we are able to offer Cross Country for the fall sports season. Any 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are encouraged to participate. We are currently scheduled to have at least five meets this fall season. FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE IS MONDAY, AUGUST 24TH, 8AM - 9:30AM AT THE PAGOSA SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL TRACK!
If you are interested in participating, please be sure the following forms and physical are turned into me, the Athletic Director, Joshua Sanchez ([email protected]) prior to Monday the 24th or brought to the first day of practice at the high school. A physical must be done prior to any students able to participate in any sport. Note, physicals are good for one year. All forms can be found online at the following links:
- Physical Form
- Emergency Information Blue Card
- 2020-2021 Pagosa Springs Middle School Athletic Handbook
Forms may be scanned and emailed to me, dropped off at the middle schools main office, or brought the first day of practice on August 24th.
As we return to sports, there are Cross Country guidelines that must be followed to help keep our student-athletes safe. Student-athletes will be expected to do the following during each practice session:
- Daily screening and temperature check. We are asking parents to please wait for their child to be screened prior to leaving after drop off, in case an athlete needs to be sent home.
- Athletes need to bring a mask to every practice session. Athletes will not be wearing full time, but will be needed at times.
- Arrive as close as possible to when you need to be at practice and maintain social distancing at all times.
- Athletes must bring their own water bottles and should not share with anyone while at practice.
- Athletes will be expected to wash and/or use hand sanitizer regularly while at practice.
- Try to stay at least 30 feet apart from other runners during practice. Do not make physical contact with anyone (such as running with, shaking hands or a high five).
- There will be no locker room usage.
- Athletes will be expected to leave practice immediately and not congregate after practice.
Please note that all is subject to change pending state/county health orders. As we get closer to our first meet, we will share more information regarding meet expectations for athletes, spectators, etc.
This is a great opportunity for students to participate and be a part of a team. Coach Mcginn is an experienced coach and runner. Athletes will learn a great deal from her about the sport, competition, and team building. We are so grateful to have her as a coach for our middle school. We are thankful that we are able to provide at least some activity for students to participate this fall and hope you take advantage of this opportunity.
We look forward to seeing you out on the track come Monday the 24th 8am.
GO PIRATES!!!
