Staff Begin the 2022-23 School Year in Schools with Superintendent Holt

This week, Archuleta School District staff returned to work for their annual back-to-school district-wide gathering.  Staff enjoyed time together with colleagues and received a warm welcome from school board president Bob Lynch and Superintendent Rick Holt. ASD’s food service team provided a tasty and nutritious breakfast.  Rather than a typical morning filled with district wide events and activities, staff were given the day to return to their schools to prepare to kick-off the 2022-23 school year..

Throughout the day, Archuleta School District’s Superintendent, Rick Holt, opted to visit each school individually to spend time with staff.

During the individual school visits, Holt and the staff explored a definition of leadership by Brene Brown “I define a leader as anyone who takes responsibility for finding the potential in people and processes, and who has the courage to develop that potential.”   Staff shared stories and explored the concepts of responsibility, unlocking and developing potential, teaching as a process, and courage as it relates to working with our students and each other.

Holt encouraged staff to start the year thinking about the responsibility educators hold as they discover how to unlock the potential in each student to ensure success for every student.  He highlighted how “the manner in which they craft and plan lessons is the highest leverage opportunity to get all students to engage. As leaders in our buildings, it is our responsibility to do all that is within our control to help all students unlock their potential”, stated Holt.

Superintendent Holt emphasized gratitude to each staff member for showing the courage to show up everyday.  He ended by saying that one of his greatest hopes would be that this year be a return to normal where all students get access to meaningful relationships and the high quality instruction that has been challenging to deliver on over the past few years.
